Tradovate Order Rejected: Risk Parameters / No Quote

Every order bounces as "risk parameters" or "no quote available" even though the chart shows a live price. Both almost always trace to the same unprovisioned account state.

Tradovate order ticket showing a rejected order with a risk parameters or no quote available reason

When you're scalping ES or NQ, few things kill your momentum faster than a Tradovate order that bounces straight back as rejected. Two of the most confusing reasons tend to show up together: “risk parameters” and “no quote available.” You watch live quotes tick across the chart, yet every order, market, sell at ask, buy at bid, even a resting stop, comes back rejected for one of those two reasons. Here's the reassuring part: both almost always trace to one of three account states you can fix yourself, an unsigned market-data agreement, a feed that hasn't gone live, or a risk limit. It's rarely a broken platform. Below, we'll walk through each cause and its fix, then show how automating your entries with PickMyTrade heads most of them off before an order is ever sent.

Quick Checklist for Risk Parameters & No Quote Rejections

  • Read the exact rejection reason first. Open Orders / Order History and click the rejected order to see whether it says “risk parameters” or “no quote available.”
  • Confirm your data feed is live. Orange or delayed symbol names and empty quote fields mean you're not receiving real-time data, and orders will reject.
  • Sign the Non-Professional Market Data Agreement. An unsigned agreement blocks real-time data and can cascade into rejections.
  • Check Risk Settings. A Max Position Size, loss limit, or Products Permitted rule may be blocking the order regardless of your account balance.
  • Verify you're on the current contract month. An expired or continuous symbol (NQ1!) can produce quote and rejection errors.
  • Watch for platform or clearing incidents. During a broker or prop-firm data hiccup, these two errors can appear briefly even when your account is fine.

What "Risk Parameters" and "No Quote Available" Mean

A “risk parameters” rejection means the order failed a check inside your account's risk configuration or the entitlements attached to it. That check can be a hard number you set yourself (a Max Position Size or loss limit), a rule a prop firm applied to a funded or evaluation account, or an entitlement gap, for example, the account can't confirm it's licensed to trade or receive data for that instrument. The order never reaches the matching engine because it fails validation first.

A “no quote available” rejection is a different animal. Tradovate couldn't price the order because it didn't have a valid, real-time quote for that contract at that moment. The full message you'll usually see is “No quote available. Please contact support.” It happens when the account isn't subscribed to (or entitled to) live data for the exchange, when the symbol is expired or thinly traded, or during a pre-open or low-liquidity window where no firm quote exists.

The reason these two show up together so often is that they share a single root: your account isn't fully provisioned for real-time market data. When the data agreement is unsigned or the feed is inactive, some orders bounce as “no quote available” (no price) while others bounce as “risk parameters” (the entitlement check fails). Fix the data and risk state and you'll usually clear both at once.

Top Causes of These Rejections

1. No Active (or Unsigned) Market-Data Subscription

Every live Tradovate account needs an active real-time data subscription and a signed data agreement to price orders. If you never subscribed, or you signed up but never finished the Non-Professional Market Data Agreement, the platform may show delayed data (symbol names in orange) and reject market orders as “no quote available.” On the entitlement side, that same gap can surface as “risk parameters” because the account can't confirm it's cleared to trade the instrument.

2. The Data Feed Hasn't Activated Yet (or Dropped)

Even after you subscribe and sign, real-time data isn't instant. Activation commonly takes anywhere from 10 to 90 minutes, and you typically have to log out and back in to pick up the entitlement. Trade inside that window and you'll see delayed quotes and “no quote available.” Feed connections can also drop during very low-volume periods and need a re-login to come back.

3. A Risk Limit Is Blocking the Order

Tradovate's account Risk Settings enforce hard caps: Max Position Size, Daily Loss Limit, Weekly Loss Limit, Trailing Max Drawdown, and a Products Permitted list. If your order would breach any of these, or the instrument isn't on the permitted list, the order is rejected under “risk parameters,” no matter how much buying power you have. On prop and evaluation accounts, the firm sets these limits, so you may not have set them yourself.

4. Expired or Wrong Contract Symbol

If your chart, alert, or DOM is pointed at an expired contract or a TradingView continuous symbol (say, NQ1! instead of the current NQ month), Tradovate may have no live quote to fill against, that produces “no quote available”, or it may reject the order and flag the account “Liquidation Only.” Rolling to the current front-month contract clears it.

5. A Platform or Clearing-Side Incident

Once in a while these errors aren't your account at all. During a brief broker or prop-firm (clearing) incident, you can see clusters of “no quote available,” “maximum order quantity,” and “Trading is temporarily halted” rejections, even while Tradovate's own status page shows no general outage. When that's the case, the fix is simple: wait for the incident to clear, then retry.

How to Fix These Rejections: Step-by-Step

Step 1: Read the Exact Rejection Reason

Don't guess. Log into trader.tradovate.com, open the Orders or Order History panel, find the rejected order, and click it to open the detail. The specific reason (“risk parameters” versus “No quote available. Please contact support.”) tells you which branch below to follow. Remember: that reason lives inside Tradovate, not in your charting tool or TradingView.

Step 2: Fix the Market-Data Side (Handles Most "No Quote Available")

1

Open Application Settings

Open the button at the top-right of the Web Trader.

2

Subscribe to the exchange

Select the Subscriptions tab, scroll to the Market Data section, then click Subscribe for the exchange you trade (for ES/NQ/MES/MNQ, that's the CME bundle).

3

Sign the Non-Professional Market Data Agreement

Skip it and you may be billed at professional rates and, more to the point, may not receive real-time data at all.

4

Wait for activation, then re-login

Wait for activation (about 10–90 minutes), then log out and back in. Real-time symbols should then display in their normal color with a live bid/ask.

Prop / evaluation accounts: If you're on a funded or eval account (Apex, Topstep, TradeDay, and the like), you often can't self-subscribe, only the prop firm can enable or fix the data feed. Sign any agreement they ask for, then contact the firm if data still isn't live after activation.

Step 3: Fix the Risk Side (Handles Most "Risk Parameters")

1

Open Application Settings

Open Application Settings and choose the Accounts tab.

2

Open Risk Settings

Click Risk Settings to expand the panel.

3

Check Max Position and loss limits

Check Max Position Size. If your order quantity exceeds it, either reduce the quantity or raise the limit (on your own account). Do the same for Daily/Weekly Loss Limit and Trailing Max Drawdown if you've hit them.

4

Check Products Permitted

If it's restricted to a list, add the contract you're trading or disable the restriction.

5

On a prop account, request the change

On a prop or eval account you usually can't raise these yourself, submit a risk-change request or contact the firm to increase your allowed size.

Step 4: Confirm the Contract and Retry

Point your chart, DOM, and any alert at the current front-month contract, not an expired or continuous (NQ1!) symbol. Confirm a live bid/ask is showing in the Quotes tab, then resubmit. If everything is provisioned and it still rejects, check for a platform or clearing incident and, if needed, contact support with the order ID and the exact reason you found in Step 1.

Prevent This with PickMyTrade

PickMyTrade links your TradingView alerts straight to Tradovate and adds guardrails so fewer orders ever reach a rejection state:

  • Symbol & Quantity Validation, checks the contract and size before the order is sent, so expired symbols and oversized quantities are caught early instead of bouncing back.
  • Entitlement & Data-Aware Routing, designed to route orders through an account that's set up for live trading, cutting down on “no quote available” surprises from unprovisioned feeds.
  • Risk-Aware Order Handling, helps you keep alert quantity inside your Tradovate or prop-firm Max Position and product limits, so “risk parameters” rejections are less likely.
  • Multi-Account Sync, mirrors a corrected, validated order across all connected accounts instead of firing bad orders everywhere at once.

The payoff is fewer manual clicks, fewer stalled entries, and cleaner logs when you do need to debug.

Frequently Asked Questions

A visible chart price isn't proof of a live, tradable quote. Your chart may be showing delayed data (symbol name in orange) while your account lacks an active real-time subscription or a signed data agreement, so at order time Tradovate has no firm quote to price against. Subscribe, sign the agreement, and re-login.

It validates the order against your account's Risk Settings and entitlements: Max Position Size, Daily/Weekly Loss Limit, Trailing Max Drawdown, and Products Permitted, plus whether the account is cleared to trade that instrument. If any check fails, the order is rejected before it reaches the market.

Real-time data usually activates within about 10 to 90 minutes, and you often need to log out and back in to pick it up. If symbols are still orange or quotes are blank after that window and a re-login, confirm the subscription shows active and that the Non-Professional agreement is signed.

On funded and evaluation accounts, Tradovate typically doesn't own the account, so it can't enable or repair market data; only the prop firm can. Sign whatever agreement the firm requires, then contact the firm's support to activate the feed.

Sometimes, yes. Brief broker or clearing incidents can trigger bursts of "no quote available," "maximum order quantity," and "Trading is temporarily halted" even when Tradovate's status page looks clean. If your account is fully provisioned and orders still reject, wait a few minutes and retry, then contact support with the order ID.

Yes. Trading an expired symbol or a TradingView continuous symbol (like NQ1!) can leave Tradovate without a live quote to fill, or flag the account "Liquidation Only." Roll to the current front-month contract and re-place the order.

Open the Orders or Order History panel in trader.tradovate.com, click the rejected order, and read the reason in the order detail. That exact string is what determines the fix, and it lives inside Tradovate, not in TradingView or your charting tool.

No tool can guarantee zero rejections; a prop firm can still cap your size and a broker incident is out of anyone's control. But validating symbol, quantity, and routing before the order is sent removes the most common self-inflicted causes, so far fewer alerts turn into rejected orders.
