Tradovate Black Screen Across Multiple Computers
One black screen means reset your machine. Two black screens at once mean stop resetting and start escalating. Here's the 60-second test that tells you which one you're facing.
You log in expecting your charts and DOM, and instead you're staring at a black rectangle. So you do the sensible thing, you walk over to a second computer, or fire up your laptop on a different network, and log in there too. Same black screen. That's the moment this stops being an ordinary glitch and turns into something worth diagnosing carefully, because a problem that follows you from machine to machine isn't living on any single machine.
Here's the short version. Run the quick client-side fixes once, on one computer: log off and back on, reset your workspace, clear the cache, and try a fresh reinstall. If a second, unrelated computer still shows the same black screen after that, the fault is on Tradovate's side or tied to your account, and no amount of reinstalling on your end will move it. Your job then flips from “fix my computer” to “confirm it's server-side, protect my open positions, and escalate to support.” Below is exactly how to do all three without wasting an afternoon.
The 60-Second Test That Saves You an Hour
Before you touch a single setting, answer one question: is the black screen on one computer, or on two? This is the whole diagnosis in a nutshell.
A black screen caused by your own machine, a corrupted cache, a broken workspace file, a stale app build, a graphics driver hiccup, is local by definition. It can only affect the device it lives on. So if you open Tradovate in a browser on a second computer, ideally on a different internet connection, and it loads normally, you've proven the problem is local to the first machine, and the resets below will almost certainly fix it.
But if that second machine is also black, you've just ruled out every local cause in one move. Two independent computers don't corrupt their caches in the same way at the same minute. Whatever they share is the culprit, your Tradovate login, your market-data entitlement, or the servers behind them. That's a completely different problem with a completely different fix, and it's the one this page is really about.
Quick rule: one black machine means reset and reinstall locally. Two or more black machines at once means stop resetting and start escalating, you're looking at a server-side or account-side issue, not a hardware one.
First, the Local Fixes (Do These Once, on One Computer)
Even when you suspect it's bigger than your machine, it's worth clearing the local suspects first, they're fast, and they're the exact steps support will ask whether you tried. Work through them in order and re-check after each.
Log off completely, then log back in
Not just a page refresh, a full sign-out. Use the account menu to log out, close the app or browser tab entirely, reopen it, and sign back in. This forces the platform to rebuild its session and re-pull your layout from scratch, which clears a surprising number of one-off render failures. If clearing the cache is an option in your browser or the desktop app, do that in the same pass, then reload.
Reset your workspace to default
A corrupted or emptied workspace is one of the most common reasons the platform looks blank while everything underneath it is actually fine, the app loads, but there's no layout for it to draw. To rebuild a clean one, save your current workspace first so you don't lose your setup, then open the workspace menu using the plus / “Add workspace” icon in the top-left corner and choose Reset Default Workspace. That drops you back onto Tradovate's standard layout. The label and exact spot for that menu shift a little between platform updates, so if the wording on your screen doesn't match word-for-word, look for the “new workspace” or “+” control near the top-left and the reset option inside it.
Switch clients, then reinstall as a last local step
If the desktop app is black, try the web platform in a browser, and vice versa. When one client works and the other doesn't, you've narrowed it to that single app, reinstall it. Uninstall the desktop app fully, restart the computer, and install a fresh copy from Tradovate's downloads page. On the web side, a hard refresh and a different browser (or an incognito window with extensions disabled) do the same job. Give the reinstall one honest attempt. If it comes back black, don't keep grinding through installs, that's the signal to change tactics.

When It's on Two Computers: Stop, Don't Keep Reinstalling
Say you've done the resets on your desktop, checked a laptop on your phone's hotspot, and both are still dark. Reinstalling a third time won't help, because there's nothing wrong with the software on those machines. The realistic causes now are all on the far side of your login:
- A Tradovate-side outage or degraded service. Platform incidents happen, and while they're active the app can fail to load its data and hang on a blank or black screen no matter whose computer you use. This is the single most common reason two machines break at once.
- An account or data-entitlement problem. If your market-data agreement, subscription, or account provisioning is in a bad state, the platform may authenticate but never receive the data it needs to render, and it stalls the same way on every device you log in from.
- A stuck session on the server. Occasionally a session gets wedged on Tradovate's side and needs a support reset before any client can draw a normal screen.
None of those are fixable by clearing your cache one more time. Two things are worth a quick check before you write your ticket, though. First, glance at Tradovate's status or social channels to see whether an outage is already acknowledged, if it is, the fix is simply to wait it out and manage risk in the meantime. Second, if you trade a prop firm evaluation or funded account, the account lives with the firm, so they're your first call, not Tradovate directly.
Protect Your Open Positions Before You Troubleshoot Further
This is the part traders skip and regret. A black screen doesn't cancel anything, your entries, stops, and targets are resting on Tradovate's servers and stay live while your screen is dark. But “still live” isn't the same as “still visible,” and you can't manage what you can't see.
So if you're carrying a position when the screen goes black, get eyes on it another way first, before you spend twenty minutes reinstalling. The Tradovate mobile app on your phone connects to the same account and often renders when the desktop won't. If nothing loads on any device, phone your broker or prop firm's trade desk and have them confirm your positions and flatten if you want out. Treat any single client, desktop, web, or mobile, as one window into your account, never the only one. Verify your stop is where you think it is; don't assume.
How to Escalate So Support Can Actually Help
When you've confirmed it's bigger than your machine, a good ticket gets you a real answer instead of a canned “clear your cache” reply. Give them everything up front:
- Your account or username (never your password), and whether it's a personal, prop firm, or evaluation account.
- That the black screen reproduces on multiple computers and on different networks, say this in the first line. It's the detail that tells them instantly it's not a single-device fault.
- Which clients are affected, desktop app, web browser, mobile, and which, if any, still work.
- What you already tried: full log out and back in, cache clear, Reset Default Workspace, and a clean reinstall.
- Your environment: operating system, browser and version, and a timestamped screenshot of the black screen.

Prop firm traders: open the ticket with your firm's support channel instead. They can check the entitlements and account state that Tradovate exposes to them, and they'll raise it with Tradovate if the root cause is deeper. Going straight to Tradovate as an end user on a firm-owned account usually just loops you back to the firm anyway.
Black Screen Triage at a Glance
| What you see | What it usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Black on one computer, fine on another | Local cache, workspace, or app problem | Log off/on, Reset Default Workspace, reinstall the affected client |
| Blank layout but the app clearly loaded | Corrupted or empty workspace | Save your layout, then Reset Default Workspace from the top-left menu |
| Black on two or more computers at once | Server-side outage or account/data issue | Check Tradovate status, protect positions, then escalate to support |
| Black across devices right after login | Stuck session or entitlement problem | Contact support (or your prop firm) for an account-side reset |
| You're in a live trade and can't see it | Display failure only, orders are still on the server | Check the position on mobile or by phone and flatten if needed |
Keep Your Automation Running When the Screen Goes Dark
The gut-punch of a black screen isn't the display, it's the helplessness of not being able to act while the market moves. If a screen you can't render has ever cost you an entry or an exit, the answer is to stop making execution depend on any single app being open and visible. That's exactly what PickMyTrade is built for:
- Server-side execution, your TradingView alerts route to Tradovate through our infrastructure, so a trade fires whether or not the Tradovate app is drawing a screen on your desk.
- Device independence, nothing hinges on the desktop or web client being open on your machine, so a black screen on one computer, or every computer, doesn't freeze your strategy.
- Stops and targets that stick, the SL and TP defined in your alert are placed on Tradovate automatically, so your protection is set even when you can't see the ladder.
- Multi-account sync, mirror the same orders across every connected account at once, so no account sits unmanaged while you chase down a display bug.
Trade Even When the Screen Goes Black
Link your TradingView alerts to Tradovate and keep your entries, exits, and protection firing no matter which device is rendering.

When the same black screen appears on two or more separate machines at the same time, the fault almost certainly isn't on any of your computers. A local problem would only hit one device. The same failure on several devices points to something shared between them: your Tradovate account, your data entitlement, or a problem on Tradovate's servers. That's why reinstalling on each machine rarely helps, and why the real fix is to confirm it's server-side and escalate.
No. A black screen is a display failure, not an account failure. Your balance, working orders, stops, and open positions live on Tradovate's servers, not in the app window that won't paint. If you can't see the screen, log in from your phone or call your broker or prop firm's trade desk to check and manage positions while you sort out the display.
Do a quick cross-check: open Tradovate in a browser on a completely different computer or network. If that's black too, stop troubleshooting your own machine, the problem is server-side or account-side, and the next move is to contact Tradovate support (or your prop firm if you trade an evaluation account). If the second machine loads fine, the issue is local to the first device and a reset or reinstall there will usually clear it.
Save your current layout first so you don't lose it, then open the workspace menu using the plus / Add workspace icon in the top-left corner and choose Reset Default Workspace. That rebuilds a clean, standard layout. A corrupted or empty workspace can leave the platform looking blank even when everything else is fine, so this is worth trying before you assume it's an outage. Confirm the exact wording in your current build, since Tradovate updates its menus over time.
Reinstall once on the affected machine, that's a fair test. But if a clean install doesn't fix it, and especially if a second computer shows the same black screen, stop. Repeated reinstalls waste time on a problem that isn't living on your computer. At that point the evidence points server-side, and escalation gets you a real answer faster than another install.
Use a different client. The Tradovate mobile app on your phone connects to the same account and usually renders even when the desktop app won't. If nothing loads, phone your broker or prop firm's trade desk and ask them to confirm your positions and flatten if needed. Never assume a stop is safe just because you can't see it, verify it on another device or by phone.
Start with your prop firm. Evaluation and funded accounts are provisioned and managed by the firm, so they can check entitlements, data feeds, and account status on their side, and they'll open a ticket with Tradovate if the fault is deeper. Going straight to Tradovate as an end user often just gets you redirected back to the firm.
Give them enough to skip the basic back-and-forth: your account or username, that the black screen appears on multiple computers and on different networks, the exact clients affected (desktop app, web browser, mobile), the fixes you already tried (re-login, cache clear, workspace reset, reinstall), the browser and operating system, and a screenshot with a timestamp. Stating up front that it's reproduced across machines tells them immediately it isn't a single-device glitch.
